✨June 2020 Read Wrap-Up✨

June was a very good month, reading-wise. I loved every book I read- some of them have quickly become my favourite books. This month, I also listened to my first audiobook. It was a weird (a good weird) experience and I would love to listen to audiobooks more often. Overall, I read 5 book this month as well and I am elated!

Here are the books I read in June:

Book: Circe

Rating: 4.5/5

Synopsis: In the house of Helios, god of the sun and mightiest of the Titans, a daughter is born. Circe is strange- not powerful and terrible, like her father, nor gorgeous and mercenary like her mother. But she has a dark power of her own: witchcraft. When Circe's gifts threatens the gods, she is banished to the island of Aiaia where she hones her occult craft, casting spells, gathering strange herbs and taming wild beasts. Yet a woman who stands alone cannot live in peace for long- and among her island's guests is an unexpected visitor: the mortal Odysseus, for whom Circe will risk everything.

Circe's tale is a vivid epic of family rivalry, love and loss- the inextinguishable song of woman burning hot and bright in the darkness of a man's world.

My thoughts: One of the finest Greek Myth retelling. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this. I highly recommend this to anyone who wants to read familiar tales from a fresh perspective.

Book : Bridge of Clay

Author: Markus Zusak

Rating: 5/5

Synopsis: A lost typewriter. A dead dog. The bones of the snake that killed it.

Matthew Dunbar, eldest of five brothers, is on a journey to find them all. Only then can he tell the astonishing story of his family, torn apart by tragedy and a long-buried secret.

He will learn of a mother who crosses continents for a new home; of a father searching for love in the keys of an old piano; and finally, of a brother named Clay, who will make the most challenging journey of them all, and change their lives for ever.

An epic and spellbinding quest for redemption and greatness, Bridge of Clay will take you to many places, and in many ways, and will ask two eternal questions: where are you going. and who will you be when you get there?

My thoughts: This was a devastating read. I loved everything about the book- the writing style, the characters, the metaphors and the narrative style. I would recommend this book to anyone; I might just shove this book in everyone's face because in my opinion, it is a must read.

You can find my detailed review of Bridge of Clay here.

Book: The Great Gatsby

Rating: 3.5/5

Synopsis: The Great Gatsby, set in Jazz Age, New York, the novel tells the tragic story ofJay Gatsby, a self-made millionaire, and his pursuit of Daisy Buchanan, a wealthy young woman whom he loved in his youth.

My thoughts: This was the book I listened in the audio format. All the Fitzgerald audiobooks are available on youtube. I enjoyed the book and I really liked it a lot. The writing style is brilliant- it's signature Fitzgerald style. The characters are well crafted and the book was very structured.

Overall, It was a good read but it is not my favourite Fitzgerald novel.

Book: The Night Circus

Author: Erin Morgenstern

Rating: 5/5

Synopsis: 'What kind of circus is only open at night?'

The circus arrives without a warning. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not. Against the grey sky the towering tents are striped black and white. A sign hanging upon iron gates reads: OPENS AT NIGHTFALL CLOSES AT DAWN.

As dusk shifts to twilight, tiny lights begin to flicker all over the tents, as though the whole circus is covered in fireflies. When the tents are aglow, sparkling against the night sky, a sign lights up: LE CIRQUE DES RÊVES THE CIRCUS OF DREAMS.

The gates shudder and unlock, seemingly by their own volition. They swing outward, inviting the crowd inside.

NOW THE CIRCUS IS OPEN NOW YOU MAY ENTER.

My thoughts: I LOVE this book. Easily my favourite read of the month; it is definitely in my top 10 favourite books of all time. Everything about this book just makes me happy.

I have raved about this book in my detailed review post which you can check here.

Book: Heir of Fire (TOG #3)

Author: Sarah J. Maas

Rating: 5/5

Synopsis: Consumed by guilt and rage, Celaena can't bring herself to spill blood for the King of Adarlan. She must fight back...

The Immortal Queen will help her destroy the king- for a price. But as Celaena battles with her darkest memories and her heart break for a love that could never last, can she fulfil the bargain and head the almighty court of Terrasen? And who will stand with her?

My thoughts: I am a SJM trash. I admit it shamelessly. This book was just gripping and I loved reading it. Everything that happens in the book just left me wanting for more. My hate for the King of Adarlan is ever-growing. Aelin's past just broke me. And Dorian, I can't talk about everything that happens to him without giving away spoilers but he deserves better!

These are all the books I read this month.

It's great that you've managed to read so much in a month. Impressive. I read one book in June, but it was a great read. It is Remains of The Day by Kazuo Ishiguro.
