I read only one book this month because I had been busy with reading articles and journals for various research papers I had to submit for my college course.
🌙I read and absolutely loved Woven in Moonlight by Isabel Ibañez🌙
"Because words empowered by justice can never be silenced"
Inspired by Bolivian Politics, folklore and history, Isabel Ibañez's debut fantasy novel is to be read by everyone. It represents the Latinx community and its beautiful traditions and customs The novel emphasises the passion for revolution and fighting for what's right; the author employs art of making tapestry as one of main motifs which set the novel apart in this vast genre.
Acting as the decoy Condesa of the Illustrians, Ximena finds herself weeks away from marrying the false King, Atoc- this King is a tyrant who cares about filling his own coffers and doesn't think about the people of his King.
Woven in Moonlight highlights Ximena's fight, artistry i.e making silver strands out of moonlight and weaves it into a tapestry and morality - she's constantly thinking about making the Kingdom a better place for everyone. However, her blind passion has led her to dismiss various people who approach the same destination but in a different manner. Eventually, she does realise that all is not true and learns from her mistakes.
With an amazingly built world and packed with vigilantes, sword fights, fantastical and magical elements, this novel is definitely a page turner.
The novel has a romantic subplot that leaves you wanting for more. The plot and the characters' arc, both progress in a natural manner.
Special appreciation should be given to Ibañez's writing style - she employs pellucid language and cleverly incorporates colloquial Spanish sentences and phrases which make the novel authentic and transports you directly to a scene in the novel.
She brilliantly weaves the themes of imperialism, revolution and magic and it leaves the readers feeling inspired and wanting more. Although, the novel, in the beginning is a slow burner, it is a must read. 🧡
Rating: 4.5/5 ⭐️
Final Thoughts- A book I'd recommend eyes closed.
